Hey, I just finished the Culture and Ecology of the Andaman Marine, Reefs, and Mangroves (aka Oceans). I am also done with my Thai final! Summer vacation has officially started. What did we do during Oceans???? SOOOOOOO Much! We got to snorkle in the Adang Archipelago in the National Park and get really close to coral reefs. It was amazing. We spent the first week camping their after two overnight trains and …
This Sunday was our first field trip for our Art in the Kansai Area class to Horyuu-ji, one of the oldest Buddhist temples in Japan. It houses many culturally important artifacts that we looked at in class so it was a great opportunity to see them in real life. The temple complex was big with a classic layout of an early Buddhist temple including a pagoda, a golden hall …
Hey, Sorry for not posting in a while. I kept trying to post but either my computer or the site was glitching and it never posted my posts. So! Songkram Festival, Thai New Year was last weekend from April 13-15. People literally stood on the side of the road and threw water on cars, motocycles, pedestrians and anything or anyone else that crossed their paths. It was beautiful. It is my new …
3/10 Ayako-san finally returned from her trip to Europe! Yeah! She left and spent two weeks in London, Paris and some other French city that I cannot recall. It was really nice to see her again. Nana-chan and I went to the local church meeting in Motoyama to visit her. I haven't been to the church in a long time, but everyone still remembered me. So every meeting the woman all …
3/19 Yasu is BACK FROM HAWAII! Yatta! He came upstairs and greeted me and Kim. Then he promptly invited us to the party that he had left to come find us. One of the new guys from England (John) and all of the other new Brits (Simeon, Andy, and Ian), a girl from France (still haven't caught her name), the two crazy Ausies from Down Under (Matt and James) and finally …
3/15 Today Kris, Kim and I all went to the Hounen matsuri also known as the penis festival. It is a fertility festival that has become world famous. We ended up travelling for almost two hours to get there and almost ended up lost but it was well worth the wait. It was a great day albeit a bit chilly at first. The entire festival includes various stalls set up to …
3/3 Today was rehearsal for our guest appearance at the Children's Day festival being hosted at NUAS. There were six countries being represented; England (イギリス) , France(フランス), Nigeria(ニィジェリア), Russia(ロシャ), China (中国・ちゅうごく) and America(アメリカ)for the kids. The entire gymnasium had been decorated by the NUAS student volunteers and the staff at the Children's Care center. They divided the room into five parts with Europe (England, Russia, France, and Nigeria) on one wall, …
2/20 On our last adventure to the hospital we actually had the chance to see more of downtown Nisshin. Today we decided to go exploring and see what else there is beyond the shadow of our territory. We found the Public Library with an adorable little hallway. After finishing our self-appointed tour of the library we went to go and find the Orange House. It's actually this random shop that we …
2/14 Last night I was struck with a wave of inspiration and decided to write a short story at three am. After editing, and a sudden strike of courage, I may post it here. Oh, Japan how you make me do crazy thing at odd times. But it did lead to me studying more Japanese...there is progress and perchance a hint of method to this madness. It is Valentine's day in Japan. …
2/6 Today, I finally had the chance to see the Nisshin City hospital. I must say that if you are ever here and actually need a doctor, call an ambulance (dial 991 kyukyusha [qu-qu-sha] is the word for ambelance so we always say that's the sound of gunfire which is why you'd need the ambulance. haha lame pun). The hospital is really, really far from where I live at, however Kim …
